The trust launched its collections drive from 23rd Feb 2006 - Manjunath’s birthday. Among the very first donors were - Sanjay Khanduri, Wharton Batch of 2006, with a Rs. 44,500 donation and Akhil Krishna, Manju’s batchmate, with a Rs.30,000 donation. Many people have come forward to help build the corpus. We have even received donations from the media. One very special contribution. A lady from Hardwar sent us Rs. 1000 via a cheque which did not have the paying branch marked. She is 80 years old, and read about the case and the Trust in the newspapers. We returned the cheque to her, with our heartfelt thanks; her blessings and wishes are enough. She couriered us back a cheque for Rs. 2,000, with a note that she would be miserable if it did not get cashed. What can we say to such a gesture? It makes our resolve all the more strong. The funds have been utilised for: (a) case expenses (b) the RTI Act Helpline and (c) The Award |
